If you are standing anywhere in the centre of the city, you will likely see a massive green and pink structure reaching into the clouds. This is the lotus tower in colombo.
It is shaped like a lotus bud, which is a very important flower in our culture. It represents purity and the growth of the nation. It has quickly become the most popular landmark for anyone visiting Sri Lanka.
Whether you want to see a 360-degree view of the Indian Ocean or just want a great photo for your social media, this tower is the place to be. But there are a few things you should know before you head over there.
The Lotus Tower location and how to get there
Finding the tower is quite easy. The lotus tower location is right by the Beira Lake on D.R. Wijewardane Mawatha in Colombo. It is very close to the main railway station, and the bus stands in Pettah.
If you are staying in a hotel in the city, the easiest way to get there is by taking a local taxi or a “PickMe” (our local version of Uber). Just tell the driver you want to go to the Nelum Kuluna, which is the local name for the tower. It is a very central spot, so you won’t have any trouble finding it.
Lotus Tower height and structure
One of the first things you will notice is just how tall this building is. The lotus tower height is about 351.5 meters. For a long time, it was the tallest structure in all of South Asia. When you stand at the base and look up, it feels like it never ends.
You might wonder how many floors in lotus tower are available to visit. There are 13 floors in total. The base has several levels for shopping and digital museums. The “flower” part at the top contains the observation deck, banquet halls, and even a revolving restaurant where you can eat while the city slowly turns beneath you.
Planning your visit: Lotus Tower opening hours
It is a good idea to check the time before you go. The lotus tower opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays. If you visit on a Saturday or Sunday, they stay open a bit longer, until 11:00 PM.
If you want to catch the sunset, try to arrive around 5:00 PM. The ticket counter usually closes one hour before the tower itself closes, so don’t leave it until the very last minute. Weekends can get quite busy with local families, so a weekday morning is usually the quietest time to visit.
What about the lotus tower ticket price?
The lotus tower ticket price is different for locals and international tourists. For foreign visitors, the ticket is $20 USD. This usually includes access to the observation deck and the digital museum called Pixel Bloom. Children between 3 and 10 years old usually pay $10 USD.
For local Sri Lankans, the price is much lower, starting around 500 LKR for a standard single entry. If you want a “VIP” experience and want to skip the lines, there are tickets available for 2,000 LKR as well.
If you have a large group or want to check if they are hosting a special event, you can use the Lotus Tower contact number to reach them at +94 112 108 300. They are quite helpful if you need to know about weather conditions before heading up.
